Cognito now has AWS Custom Sign-In Support

Posted on October 28, 2022 By Dave

Developers can now customize sign-in experiences for their mobile apps using Amazon Cognito.
Amazon Web Services announced Thursday’s update, adding several new features to Cognito User Pools. This is the mechanism in Cognito that allows developers to create and manage their user directory, sign-in/sign up process, and more.
AWS has provided pre-built sign in/sign up user forms to Cognito User pools that developers can add to their apps using Amazon Cognito SDK.
These forms are now available to all users and allow for customization of the user experience to match your branding and style, AWS announced in its announcement.
Developers can enable customers to log into their applications using other online accounts, such as their Facebook or Google accounts. This is possible without having to manage multiple SDKs from different providers.
Instead, users can be directed to AWS-hosted pages by the updated Cognito User Pools. According to the announcement, Cognito will handle the identity provider interactions and create user profiles for federated users within Cognito User Pools.
AWS stated that users can now sign up and log in using social identity providers, corporate identities providers with SAML, and a username with Cognito User Pools.

Previous Post: AWS Introduces Controls to Block Public Access to S3 This week, Amazon Web Services (AWS), introduced a new feature that allows administrators to block public access to their data. This is to reduce the number of data leaks due to mismanaged Amazon S3 buckets. The “Amazon S3 Block Public Access” feature is actually a set of four security settings that administrators can activate or disable across their entire AWS account, or per-bucket basis. Once the settings have been turned on, they will apply to the current environment as well as any future buckets. In a blog post, Jeff Barr, AWS evangelist, stated that you have the ability to block public access to existing items (whether it was specified in an ACL [access control lists] or a policy) as well as to prevent public access to new items. Blocking public access to an AWS account that is used to host a business application or data lake will protect it from accidental public exposure. Our goal is to clarify that web hosting is not allowed to public access. These settings can be accessed via S3 console, command-line interface, or S3 API.
