Linda Cardinale (Vigilant Technologies) Shares Her ActiveCollab Story

Posted on August 12, 2022 By Dave

Vigilant Technologiesis an IT company with headquarters in Troy, Michigan (USA) and two additional offices in Toronto (Canada), and Hyderabad (India). Their core services include implementing and upgrading Oracle apps, custom development work, and managing/augmenting client’s IT departments. They have 150 IT professionals. They use ActiveCollab. Linda is the Operations Manager responsible to our corporate tools, such as email or ActiveCollab. ActiveCollab is a great tool for our business. I also manage projects and programs for our clients. It is flexible, customizable, user-friendly, robust, and meets all our business requirements. Their customer service is excellent. They are responsive and knowledgeable about the product. ActiveCollab is a great solution for companies that operate on different continents. It has greatly improved communication within our company. When I started at Vigilant in 2013, ActiveCollab was only used in a limited capacity. ActiveCollab was not used by us as we only had a few users who logged in on a regular basis. We were also several releases behind because we had a self-hosted version that we didn’t update. One of my first tasks was the implementation of a time tracking system to better track profitability on a project/client basis. When we started looking at products from different vendors, a coworker mentioned ActiveCollab’s time logging functionality. I was a novice to the application and began asking the support team many questions. They were so many that they seemed tired of hearing from us. But they were always helpful and accurate with their answers. I implemented the time logging functionality and upgraded the application to the latest release. I have never looked back. Every day I discover new features.
Each client is invited and a project is created for each engagement. We create milestones and tasks to track work and load all project documents into the File Section. To track the project’s profitability, we log time and load all key project documents into the File section. We use ActiveCollab for both our internal project team meetings as well as client meetings. This allows us to efficiently manage many projects while requiring minimal project management overhead. We also set up an email filter process that allows clients to send bugs and issues discovered during user acceptance testing. It’s a great way of keeping track of bugs. Many clients log in to the application to tell us their needs. Many commented on the tool’s simplicity and efficiency. We also upload all the important documents in the File section, and keep track of the time spent on these engagements. Anyone can log in to view the comments on a task and see the status of the ticket. ActiveCollab is also used for back-office operations. I have created a milestone template to help with the new hire process. The milestone includes 30 tasks (i.e. The milestone contains 30 tasks (i.e. Once they have the re

Fire I find most of these actions to be short-sighted and solve a financial problem at the cost of long-term viability. As a result, it seems like there will be a lot more firefighting. Here are some examples:

AWS Introduces Controls to Block Public Access to S3 This week, Amazon Web Services (AWS), introduced a new feature that allows administrators to block public access to their data. This is to reduce the number of data leaks due to mismanaged Amazon S3 buckets. The “Amazon S3 Block Public Access” feature is actually a set of four security settings that administrators can activate or disable across their entire AWS account, or per-bucket basis. Once the settings have been turned on, they will apply to the current environment as well as any future buckets. In a blog post, Jeff Barr, AWS evangelist, stated that you have the ability to block public access to existing items (whether it was specified in an ACL [access control lists] or a policy) as well as to prevent public access to new items. Blocking public access to an AWS account that is used to host a business application or data lake will protect it from accidental public exposure. Our goal is to clarify that web hosting is not allowed to public access. These settings can be accessed via S3 console, command-line interface, or S3 API. Uncategorized
