Roadmap to Success: MCSE Messaging

Roadmap to Success is a series that helps learners understand certification pathways, career options associated with them, and the next steps beyond certification.

The Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert in Messaging (MCSE-Masing) certification is a high-value certification that prepares learners to manage and maintain Microsoft Exchange Server and Office 365, two essential products in many workplaces. The MCSE: Messaging certification is typically used to qualify for positions such as systems administrator or network administrator.

Start trainingCRITICAL UPDATE – Microsoft has restructured its certifications. The MCSE Messaging certification was officially retired on March 31, 2017. It was replaced by the MCSE Productivity. The Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert in Messaging (MCSE-Massaging) certification (now MCSE-Productivity) validates a learner’s knowledge and skills in moving organizations to the cloud, increasing user productivity, flexibility, and improving data security. There are two paths to earning the MCSE: Messaging certification, which is different from most other MCSE-level certifications.
Learners have the option to specialize in Microsoft Office 365. In this case, the MCSE messaging certification is comprised of three exams. Two of these are covered by SPOTO training.
70-346 – Managing Office365 Identities and Requirements

70-347 – Enabling Office 365 services*Please note that passing the 70-346 or 70-347 exams will result in Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Office 365 certification. Find out more in our Roadmap to Success: MCSA 365 post.

70-345 – Designing, Deploying and Maintaining Microsoft Exchange Server 2016.

Learners can also choose to specialize in Microsoft Office 365 or Exchange Server 2013 and complete four exams. This path requires that learners pass all four exams.
70-346 – Managing Office365 Identities and Requirements

70-341 – Core Solutions of Microsoft Exchange Server 2013

70-342 – Advanced Solutions of Microsoft Exchange Server 2013

Typically, the certification requires that learners have at least two years of experience with Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 and Office 365. The MCSE certification is intermediate-to-advanced-level, so it is important that learners have some experience before they embark on this certification path.
Exam DetailsPearson is the testing center that most often provides Microsoft exams. They offer a great Exam Profile series that addresses some of MCSE: Messaging exams.
